REVIEW: Wonder Woman: Warbringer by Leigh Bardugo

Princess Diana longs to prove herself to her legendary warrior sisters. But when the opportunity finally comes, she throws away her chance at glory and breaks Amazon law—risking exile—to save a mortal. Diana will soon learn that she has rescued no ordinary girl, and that with this single brave act, she may have doomed the world.

Alia Keralis just wanted to escape her overprotective brother with a semester at sea. She doesn’t know she is being hunted by people who think her very existence could spark a world war. Soon Alia learns that she is a Warbringer—a direct descendant of the infamous Helen of Troy, fated to bring about an age of bloodshed and misery.

Together, Alia and Diana must face uncertainty while trying to bring and end to the chaotic Warbringer legacy so that Alia can live in peace. Along the way they encounter some deadly human and immortal foes as well as acquire helpful allies.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. Wonderful and detailed character building for an iconic heroine. Bardugo excells with the level of engaging characterization. I like this young and modern version of Diana and the echo to ideas introduced for the 2016 film are lovely. I also enjoyed Alia's journey as well as the supporting characters, Nim and Theo.

This was a fast paced, exciting read with some great twists. Excellent for superhero fans as well as those who enjoy some adventure, mythology, fantasy and strong heroines.

REVIEW: Artemis, Wild Goddess of the Hunt (Olympians #9)

*Thank you to Netgalley for an ARC in exchange for a fair review*

Expected publication: January 31, 2017

Artemis, Goddess of the Hunt, finds power through her skilled hunting ability and mighty bow despite the fact that she was shunned (it's all Hera's fault) even before she was born and was destined to live a life of solitude (her choice since her mother was treated so poorly).

She slays those who wish to do harm to the innocent and takes care of the young and helpless. She protects women and young girls, helps in childbirth, soothes, and is unrivaled in her hunting abilities. But a word of caution, do not cross her because her wrath is not to be taken lightly.

Author George O'Connor continues to artfully share his knowledge of Greek myth in another dynamic graphic novel representation.  The included myths are the platform of our understanding of Artemis and the illustrations only seek to enhance these classic stories.

REVIEW: The Hidden Oracle by Rick Riordan

Rick Riordan is back with another highly entertaining addition to the demigod world of Percy Jackson and Camp Half-Blood!

Rather unhappy with Apollo's action during Gaia's uprising, Zeus punishes his son by banishing him to Earth.  This has happened before, with Apollo eventually winning his father's good graces once again; however, Apollo has never been powerless or stuck in a 15-year-old, pudgy, acne ridden body.  With the help of some familiar and new faces, he makes it to Camp Half-Blood only to learn that demigods are going missing and there is a dangerous new enemy afoot.

Despite the fact that plenty of gods, monsters, and mortals have it out for Apollo, he has to focus his energies on saving the day (and of course, himself!).

Riordan doesn't disappoint with another fast paced and equally hilarious entry into the mythology laden world first introduce in The Lightning Thief. The true gem is Apollo's attitude, which departs so much from the demigods reader's have grown to love since 2005. Apollo is so used to being the handsome, athletic and talented golden god of medicine, music and so much else that it is quite amusing as he discovers that he really is none of those things for the time being.

Other great features are the chapter titles in haiku and the supporting cast of characters. I can't wait for another installment!
